Students and staff from the Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School gathered Friday to honor Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, who was tragically stabbed to death in 2018.
Students participated in a basketball tournament.
“We’re playing with a goal and purpose in mind, to show our community that we should stay away from guns and violence and that we should do things like this to help the community,” student Ebenezer Amoateng says.
The tournament was also a part of the school’s Anti-bullying and Gang Awareness Day, to create awareness around the issue.
In attendance was a special face, the mother of "Junior", Leandra Feliz. She joyfully cheered students on as they played on the court.
“We are trying to bring the message to stop the bullying, stop the crime and stop the violence on the street,” Feliz said. “I feel so proud of the kids to keep Junior’s memory alive.”
