Enjoy this brief break in the parade of storms, because a strong storm is on the way this weekend. Despite the break in precipitation, it turns frigid for Friday including any Valentine's Day plans. Feels-like temperatures will dip into the upper-teens for the morning commute. The gusts will be over 30 mph at times and remaining near 30 mph throughout the day. Actual highs reach 35 degrees, but it will struggle to feel like 30.
The coldest night this week will be Friday night with lows down to the mid-20s and feeling like the upper-teens. This frigid start Saturday morning will set the stage for a much larger storm this weekend. It should start as a burst of heavy wet snow at around noon Saturday, with a slushy couple inches expected as of Thursday night. The snow will transition to a wintry mix then rain throughout the evening. It will be a soaking rain at night, contributing to ponding and minor flooding in spots. There will be a lull in the rain Sunday morning and midday as warm air sneaks in before a line of thunderstorms late Sunday afternoon and evening.
Behind the thunderstorms Sunday night, another arctic invasion of frigid air arrives early next week. Highs will be in the upper-20s, and lows will be in the teens. Feels-like temperatures at night could reach zero degrees or below. This sets the stage for the next potential storm in this parade of storms midweek next week. There is a growing chance it is "too cold to snow" again but a perfect storm track could also yield significant snow. The Climate Prediction Center currently gives the area a slight chance of heavy snow on next Thursday on Feb. 20.
