WHAT TO KNOW:
  • Breezy today temperatures drop below freezing by sunset and tonight will be cold.
  • Snow flurries are possible on Sunday afternoon. Better chance east of city.
  • Midweek storm is primarily a rain event. However, it will bring a mix of rain Wednesday evening. Minor accumulation possible. All rain on Thursday.
  • Minor rain or snow event next weekend.
RECORD: January 2025 was the second driest in Central Park. Only 0.61 of rain fell. Records go back to the 1800s!
It was the second driest January on record in Central Park and temperatures were cooler than normal too. Only 0.61 inch of rain was reported and the drought we inherited from Autumn 2024 continued to grow. Things are changing for February though and we're off to a warmer, wetter, and potentially snowier outlook.
The weekend
We have some flurries and rain on the way this weekend but today is dry. Expect a mix of sun and clods and windy conditions this afternoon. Temperatures will remain in the mid 30s this morning and afternoon, but the breeze in the afternoon will drop wind chills to near 20F. Overnight tonight is cold with lows in the teens and wind chill values in the single digits.
There's a chance for snowflakes on Sunday afternoon, but the risk is low for the city. A few light rain showers are expected Sunday evening. Temperatures will be above freezing on Monday morning and it will be dry by the commute.
The work week
Monday and Tuesday look good! Temperatures will be above freezing, and Tuesday comes with plenty of sunshine. Tuesday will be the pick of the week, but both days will reach the mid 40s.
The next storm arrives on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will be near the freezing mark. The storm will likely start off with a few snowflakes or freezing rain. Wednesday evening could be slippery, but temperatures will rise overnight Wednesday into Thursday. We are expecting plain rain on Thursday.
More snow next weekend?
Daily rain or snowflakes are expected next weekend. Fortunately, the risk comes from a northern clipper system. These are small disturbances that don't contain a lot of moisture, so currently, accumulations appear minor.
