At least 214 confirmed cases of measles have been found in Brooklyn and Queens since October, city health officials announced Thursday.

Officials say the illness has been largely confined to the Orthodox Jewish community. A majority of the people infected are under the age of 18.

The city Department of Health says the outbreak began when an unvaccinated person contracted measles during a visit to Israel, where there is currently a large measles outbreak.

In many cases, the infection spread to children who did not travel – but are part of the close-knit community.

There are at least 47 confirmed cases in Borough Park and 161 confirmed cases in Williamsburg. Other cases have been confirmed in Bensonhurst, Brighton Beach, Midwood, Marine Park and in Flushing, Queens.

Outside the city, there are 156 cases of the measles in Rockland County.

Medical professionals are urging everyone to get vaccinated if they haven’t done so already.
