Music and an elaborate mosaic welcomed commuters as they caught trains at a renovated Bushwick subway that was previously falling apart.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority reopened the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues Station Thursday, four years after starting a $50 million upgrade. The L and M trains run through the station. The subway, originally built in the 1920s, now has bright lights and is handicapped accessible.

"Its new elevator ensures that seniors and people with disabilities can live in the city ... they love," said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.

The MTA hopes the new station will help stimulate the neighborhood's economy, which is on the verge of a housing boon. The agency plans to again start construction in about a year for a bus facility at the hub.
