Chairs, desks and supplies at schools in the Bronx and Brooklyn began shaking on Friday after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook our city.
Teachers at Peck Slip School in Brooklyn say that they last thing they were able to do in that moment was panic.
"No matter how many adults are in the classroom we have to be calm, peace, relaxed or else its going to be a domino effect and everyone is going to start reacting, especially children," said fourth-grade teacher Sander Vilfort.
One student at P.S. 2016 in the Bronx said he felt the tremors during his math class.
"I I was just doing my work and then everything started shaking and we didn't know what it was. Everyone was panicking. thinking that we're going to die," said student Daiysa.
The DOE says that all schools are set to operate normally.
