Students from some Brooklyn schools visited several veterans on Tuesday to say thank you.
Their first stop was Golden Gate Fruits & Vegetables, the business John Cortese's family first opened in 1939. Before taking over the store, he served our country with pride during World War II.
The kids presented Cortese with an award, thanking him for his service. He says he feels honored.
The students also stopped by Midwood Senior Center, where they gave out certificates of appreciation to those who have served both the community and the country.
Students say they couldn't think of a better way to spend Veterans Day.
