5h agoSeveral New York City students were recognized as honorary firefighters by the FDNY on Tuesday as part of National Fire Prevention Week.
The FDNY’s newest honorary firefighters took an oath to uphold safety, and while they won’t be running into the fires firsthand, they’ll be helping out in a different way – informing New Yorkers about safety.
“Fire safety outreach is one of the many ways we keep people safe and reduce serious numbers of fires we have in our city,” said FDNY commissioner Laura Kavanaugh.
Students from two different schools, including Brooklyn’s P.S. 192, have been working to spread information about fire safety this year. Students from P.S. 234 in Queens were inspired to sound the alarm after they lost two of their classmates to a fire caused by a lithium-ion battery.
