Students were back in class at Lehman Campus, even though a case was confirmed in the building before the kids arrived.
Teachers also say they are hearing of at least two other suspected cases. They say they received a letter from the Lehman High School principal informing them of that confirmed case, but students were still back in class at the campus.
Some of the students tell News 12 there weren’t more than five people per classroom and that they stayed in one room the entire day in the hopes of social distancing.
However, teachers say they are anxious, and the case was confirmed when staff was in the building.
News 12 spoke with the UFT Chapter Leader Steve Swieciki at the school. He and his members say they do not trust the DOE and city’s plans.
Teachers tell News 12 it was a confusing first day back as they tried to teach the students in-person while also streaming their lessons live to students learning remotely.
Some of them say they believe a fully remote curriculum might be the best option.
