A new study says that the city's traffic lights change from green to red too abruptly. The standard time for a traffic light to remain yellow should be three seconds at a typical 30 mph intersection. But researchers visited two dozen lights around the city, and every one of them stayed yellow for less than three seconds. It could mean traffic tickets are being unfairly issued to drivers at intersections equipped with red light cameras.

In a statement released today, the Department of Transportation called the study bogus and said that red light cameras operate with a 0.3 second delay so that minor variations don't result in violations.
