A new study finds that Bronx parents may want to think twice before giving their children over-the-counter medicine. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says more than 1,500 children under the age of two suffered complications from over-the-counter medications in the last two years. The CDC report links the medications to three fatal cases. Dr. Alisa Spivey from North Central Bronx Hospital agrees with the findings, saying the medications pose too great a risk for young bodies not equipped to handle the effects. Dr. Spivey advises parents to always consult a doctor before giving any medication. She says parents should also give children a lot of water, and use vaporizers or humidifiers to ease congestion.
