The city is considering changes for bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade.
The Department of Transportation says that police only reported three pedestrian injuries in 2015, but still around 10,000 people and 3,500 bikes cross the bridge.
Due to the heavy traffic, the DOT is commissioning a study to see whether it would be feasible to expand the promenade to ease the congestion and perhaps separate the pedestrian and bike lanes.
If the findings merit an overhaul, work could begin in 2019.
