A 32-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday after answering his front door on East 12th Street.
Roquez Villalta Jimenez, known to his family and friends as Willy, was gunned down at 11:30 p.m. and died at a hospital a short time later, according to Det. Lieutenant Kevin Beyrer.
“He had sold cars, he had thought it was someone looking to buy a car,” said Beyrer. “He came outside, people inside heard a conversation in Spanish and then shots being fired.”
People who live and work nearby were stunned, some now concerned for their safety.
“I walk these streets early in the morning to go to work,” says one resident. “Now I'm looking over my shoulder.”
This is the second case of someone being shot at their front door in Huntington Station this month. Beyrer does not think it is connected to the shooting that killed 23-year-old Byron Martinez at his front door in early August.
“We do believe they both were targeted,” said Beyrer. “There is nothing to lead us to believe these were random events.”
Police said neither of the gunmen have been caught. They do not have a description of any suspects, but are canvassing surveillance video to hone in on a potential suspect.
