Summit Academy Charter School is celebrating a historic basketball season, becoming the first charter school to win both the boys and girls Public School Athletic League (PSAL) championships in the same year.

The Lady Eagles secured back-to-back titles.

"I feel so accomplished," said Alana Rivers, MVP of the girls’ team.

The boys’ team clinched its first city championship, an achievement that seemed unlikely at the start of the season.

"Out of the nine players we have on this team, seven of them are new," said Eagles Coach Phil Grant. "This has been one of the greatest feelings I’ve had in a long time."

For senior Jasper Meisner, who was named MVP of the boys’ team, the victory was especially personal.

"My dad died when I was little. I came here this year because I didn’t have a high school while I was playing basketball," Meisner said. "Came here... and the rest is history."

Next, the boys will compete in the state championship on Sunday.
