Residents in Sunset Park say they are fed up with dangerous roads in their neighborhood.
Community leaders say the most treacherous stretch of road is 53rd Street between Second and Third avenues. The intersection is littered with cracks and potholes. They say other nuisances include truck horns, noise pollution, speeding and trembling houses.
Another area of concern is the first legal left turn that trucks use off the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The blaring horns from the semi-trucks that drive down 53rd Street sound as if an earthquake is occurring, residents say.
The community leaders say they would like for there to be alternative options for trucks coming off the highway, or outright ban them from driving down 53rd Street.
The Department of Transportation says it is looking into the matter.
