The United Senior Center of Sunset Park is giving back to those affected by hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

More than 30 boxes were filled with shampoo, canned food, water, pet food, flashlights, toiletries and baby wipes. Many of the seniors who are from Puerto Rico remember Hurricane Maria and said they wanted to help.

The seniors say they remember what it was like to send everything from toothpaste to food to the island, so they put out the word that they were collecting items. The donations just kept pouring in. 

The executive director at the center is also apart of the NYC Community Emergency Response Team. The team prepares neighborhoods and communities for different types of disasters.

They say collecting these supplies and helping to organize it along with the Caribbean American Center of New York came easy for them.

The center says the Caribbean American Center of New York will take the goods and will work with the Bahamas Embassy to get it shipped as soon as possible.
