Authorities have accused four Brooklyn stores of importing hundreds of pounds of illegal clams from China.
The state's Department of Environmental Conservation says it seized about 500 pounds of so-called blood clams during a sweep of the city's seafood markets. China is not among the five countries that are allowed to export raw shellfish to the United States.
The Brooklyn stores ticketed are all part of a Sunset Park seafood market.
