Cadets from SUNY Maritime College are returning from a 75-day voyage at sea as part of the Summer Sea Term.
The event trip was the final Summer Sea Term voyage for the training ship Empire State VI. The navy vessel is set to be retired this fall.
The 450 students are coming back home after spending their summer sailing to Philadelphia, Portugal and Ireland, then returning to the Bronx.
While on board, the cadets learned the ins and outs of running a ship.
It’s all part of their college training and puts them one step closer to obtaining a license like a deck or engine license.
Since the vessel is being retired this fall, the college says it’s getting a brand-new and improved boat to continue the program.
