Immigration advocates and supporters gathered for a vigil Sunday for the 26-year-old man who was shot and injured by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents earlier this month.

As News 12 has reported, the incident happened on West 12th Street in Gravesend back on Feb. 6. Erick Cruz Diaz was shot in the face by ICE officers who were seeking to arrest his mother's boyfriend, Gaspar Avendano Hernadez.

ICE agents say Diaz was attacking them, prompting them to open fire.

But activists say the violence could have been avoided. They say they are disturbed by the idea that ICE agents are in the neighborhood and the borough - and they fear that other people living in the country without documentation or their loved ones could be targeted.

On Sunday, activists came together to continue to call for justice in the case. Organizers say Diaz's mother asked for them to come to the neighborhood where the shooting happened to show support.

Several rallies have been held in support of the family, including outside the hospital where Diaz was recovering, as well as in New Jersey.
