Police are searching for an attempted robbery suspect whose accomplice was fatally shot by an off-duty officer Monday night at a Canarsie gas station.
The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. at the Gasgo gas station at 914 Remsen Ave.
An off-duty officer was filling up at the station when police say two armed men demanded money from the booth clerk. The officer identified himself as police as the suspects tried to flee. Police say that's when the duo turned around with their weapons drawn, prompting the officer to open fire, killing 19-year-old William Simon. His alleged accomplice escaped.
Police say they recovered a gun that belonged to one of the suspects.
Investigators describe the remaining suspect as 6 feet tall and say he was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. They ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
