A suspect is recovering in Kings County Hospital after being shot in the head by a police officer this morning during an alleged car break-in.
Police say they were responding to a call for a car break-in around 10:30 this morning. As police approached the suspect to question him, they say he jumped into another car and took off. After approaching the suspect's car on Wycoff Avenue, the armed suspect fled on foot, and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says a plainclothes officer chased him down the block.
Kelly says the officer fired once, hitting the suspect in the head. Witnesses say they heard officers yelling at the suspect to drop the gun before they heard the gunshot. Officers say they recovered a loaded revolver at the scene.
