With the TCS New York City Marathon just days away, NYPD officers responded to a report of a suspicious device near West 68th Street and West Drive, located in Central Park.
The device, initially described in reports as resembling a grenade, sparked heightened concern as marathon preparations are underway in the area.
Police say they received the 911 call around 9:24 a.m. Friday. NYPD special units, including the bomb squad, quickly arrived on the scene to investigate. After a thorough inspection, the bomb squad determined the device was nonhazardous, and no injuries were reported.
Sources later indicated the object might have been a toy.
Preparations for Sunday’s marathon, which attracts thousands of participants and spectators, remain on schedule.
