A suspicious fire forced people out of their Bedford-Stuyvesant homes Thursday and gutted two businesses.
The blaze started around 5:30 a.m. in a Chinese food restaurant on Marcy Avenue. Flames quickly spread to an adjacent convenience store and apartments above the restaurant. About 100 firefighters battled the two-alarm fire, which gutted the stores and damaged several housing units.
A firefighter suffered minor injuries, but no tenants were injured. However, the Red Cross is assisting seven of the 12 people who are now homeless.
Fire officials are calling the blaze suspicious, but they are awaiting the results of an investigation to determine the cause.
