Swastikas and a racial slur were found drawn onto buildings on Garden Place in Brooklyn Heights.
A 46-year-old man reported the vandalism to police around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. It came days after a gunman killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
Police say the suspect or suspects responsible used chalk to scribble swastikas and a racial slur onto eight properties. Investigators were looking to see if surveillance video captured the vandalism occurring.
One resident whose house was tagged says they believe the images could have been a prank committed by a child, but others say the hateful message is anything but a joke.
Garden Place is a tight-knit block that was hosting a Halloween event for children on Wednesday.
No arrests have been made.
