Clergy, community leaders and neighborhood advocates came together on New Year's Day to denounce gun violence and to make a commitment toward change.
The city has already marked its first homicide of the new year.
Eve Hendricks, the mother of Brandon Hendricks Ellison, says no parent should have to live with the turmoil of losing a child to gun violence.
She stood with local advocates pleading for the violence in the borough to stop. Her son Brandon, who had a promising future, was shot and killed back in June.
The group made a commitment through a Bronx declaration to do all they can to save lives in communities plagued by gun violence.
The newly formed task force has 61 members, each representing a neighborhood in the Bronx. They plan to meet monthly to help bring about change for 2021.
