Teachers at a Catholic elementary school in the Bronx went on strike Friday.According to officials for the Federation of Catholic Teachers union, teachers at Saint Athanasius spent the day protesting outside the school. Teachers at nine other schools in the New York City-area joined the protest over salaries and health insurance.On Tuesday, the Lay Faculty Association approved a strike at 10 Catholic high schools in the area during Pope Benedict XVI's visit to New York later this month. Among the schools affected would be Cardinal Hayes and Cardinal Spellman in the Bronx.School officials say substitute teachers were called in and that classes were held Friday at Saint Athanasius.
