A team of artists are restoring a 9/11 memorial mural on City Island Avenue and Caroll Street.
The original mural was originally painted 21 years ago by Chris Mantiera. He returned to repair his work and keep the memory of the victims alive.
"No wall in New York has ever lasted this long, and this is a memorial for everybody. This has got to come out beautiful right here,” he said.
Robert Carmody, who sits on the City Island Chamber of Commerce, commissioned the project in dedication to his late friend, FDNY firefighter Vincent Princiotta. Princiotta was among the 2,700 people who died at the World Trade Center.
The repainting is expected to take two months to finish.
