Two Brooklyn teens accused of dousing a cat in lighter fluid and setting it on fire appeared in court Monday for a pretrial hearing.
Police say 18-year-old Angelo Monderoy and 17-year-old Matthew Cooper broke into a vacant Brownsville apartment on Union Street in October, poured lighter fluid on a stray cat and set it on fire. Neighbors found the cat alive with fourth-degree burns. The cat had to be euthanized.
Police say both teens have been charged with arson, burglary and animal cruelty. If convicted, they face up to 25 years in prison.
