Telehealth group offers free checkups for Brooklyn residents this week

A local telehealth company is offering free check-ups to patients in Brooklyn to spread awareness of how those without a primary care provider can still obtain prescription drugs without a trip to urgent care or and emergency room.
As part of the free Healthcare Week, Well Revolution partnered with three community pharmacies across Brooklyn, including Super Health Pharmacy in Park Slope to help increase accessibility for under-insured patients.
"People interact with their pharmacy more frequently than their primary care provider, and even if you have one which many don't the wait time can be weeks," said chief medical officer for Well Revolution Michael Rubio, adding that patients would be able to get an appointment, and fill the prescription in one facility.
"We see people enter the health care system, and drop out because it's hard to navigate, so making it easier means we increase how many people we are helping," he said, adding that of the one in three New Yorkers that lack access to primary care, one quarter are children.
Patients who took advantage of the system tell News 12 they are glad to have additional options beyond hospitals or urgent care to turn to.
"We are all pretty busy, and having that option, especially this free option for healthcare is huge, " said Azad, a patient who used the posted QR code to received a telehealth appointment Monday.
Rubio tells News 12 that outside of the week the service costs around $49 and hopes to expand to more pharmacies throughout the area to help bridge the gap for patients.
