Utility costs will be rising for New Jersey residents in June, and PSE&G is in the midst of an outreach effort to help people pay their bills.
News 12 New Jersey’s Chris Keating explains what the utility wants you to know before paying your next electric or heating bill.
The utility is acting now because electric and heating rates are rising in June from $22 to $28 per month.
PSE&G is also pushing because there are 100,000 customers eligible for payment assistance who have not yet signed-up for that help.
The company is urging its customers to visit the customer service center in West Orange where customers may be offered:
- Payment assistance for low and middle income earners and seniors.
- Deferred payment option - in which customers pay their current bill and a portion of a prior balance.
- Equal payment -- in which a bill is divided in to 12 equal payments.
Primarily, low and middle incomer earners will qualify but it's also eligible for those who perhaps lost a job or are dealing with illness.
The utility is also pushing energy efficiency concerning windows and air conditioners, plus rebates around large appliances.
PSE&G has 16 service centers.
