If you are up early due to the time change starting this weekend and it’s before the sun rises, then step outside and look up at the dark sky.
The moon will be sharing the early morning sky with two notable planets – Jupiter and Mars. The moon is beautiful by itself, but use it as a guide to find the two other planets nearby. You don't even need a telescope to view them.
All three will be visible together from Sunday through Tuesday, before they pull farther apart in the sky.
Jupiter, Mars and the moon will all rise late at night and be visible as they cross the sky together. Look towards the east-southeast and higher up in the sky. Find the moon first and use it as your guide to see the planets. Jupiter shines brightly on its own and is easy to spot, even to the unaided eye. Mars is definitely smaller but has an orange glow to it.
Sunday morning the moon will appear highest in the sky. By Monday, it will cozy up to Mars and, on Tuesday, it will sit lower in the sky and below Jupiter. This is due to the moon rising a little later each night and it appears as if it’s dancing among the planets.
The weather looks fairly clear and dry, but it will be quite cold. Sunday morning will be the coldest, so grab the warm coats on your way out the door.
