The Nonbinarian Book Bike, a mutual aid effort that delivers free queer books around Brooklyn, is gearing up to open its first brick-and-mortar store Friday.
"Everyone deserves to see themselves on the shelf," said Kay Kerimian, owner of The Nonbinarian Book Bike.
But on Tuesday, just three days before opening day, they say they were targeted.
"The first thing I see is the lid of the bike, where it says 'Everyone deserves to see themselves on the shelf.' We found literal dog poop," said Kerimian.
Instead of being discouraged, Kerimian says they are more determined than ever to succeed.
“Fills me with a sense of rage that drives that sense of purpose. We are going to open on Friday and we are going to welcome everyone in", says Kerimian.
