Thousands lined the streets of Borough Park Tuesday for the funeral of a popular rabbi.
Rabbi Yisroel Avrohom Portugal, who was born in Romania, died at Johns Hopkins Memorial Hospital Monday at the age of 95. He took over as Skulener rebbe from his father.
Community members prayed and stayed by the Skulener rebbe's bedside around the clock.
The rebbe survived the Holocaust and went on to lead the Skulen synagogue for many years. He's remembered as a man who had integrity, respect and knowledge.
His final resting place is in Monsey, Rockland County.
