Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer, and as you get behind the grill to make some tasty ribs and burgers, it's important to keep safety in mind.
News 12 Brooklyn spoke to the experts at G. Lee's Smokin' BBQ in Crown Heights on how to keep safe while handling raw meat on the barbecue.
It's important not to mix meats because of the risk for cross-contamination, which can cause food-bourne illness. Also, it's very important to cook meat thoroughly, and for that, it's all about timing and temperature. Check that meat isn't raw or bloody before serving it. Always be sure to wash your hands when handling meat.
Another good tip: don't leave food out in the sun. Keep the mayo and the meat in the fridge or on ice until it's time to use.
Of course, it's also important to remember fire safety when using hot charcoals or wood on the grill. Keep water handy just in case.
