New York Attorney General Letitia James has issued tips to New York City residents as
mail theft is on the rise.
Mail theft is increasing in the city, and thieves are especially targeting envelopes with credit cards or checks inside.
James says the longer mail waits in the mailbox, the more likely it'll get snatched, so be sure to pick it up as soon as it's delivered.
She also says to let the post office know when you'll be out of town so it can hold the mail until you return.
Look for signs of theft as well, like glue or tape on the mailbox and report it to the post office.
