The Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) held a meeting in Manhattan today allowing the public to weigh in on their proposed fare hike.
TLC says it wants to increase yellow and livery cab fares by 17 percent. Riders will also see an increase when going to the airport. TLC officials say the flat fare to get from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport will be raised from $45 to $52. A surcharge would also be added to Newark Liberty International Airport flat fare, rising from $15 to $17.50.
A final vote on the proposed increases is expected by Thursday. TLC officials say if approved, the fare changes would go into effect by the end of the summer.
