Do you have an idea on how to transform the public pool sites in New York City? The city's parks department is looking to hear ideas. But there’s only a short time to submit them.
During the offseason, the city's parks department wants to use pool sites to transform them into something residents can use during the offseason.
There are a total of 79 outdoor public pools that the city's parks department maintains and they’re looking to make good use of them. After the offseason, the pools often sit empty.
Six of the sites are under consideration for an off-season transformation — Foster Pool in the Bronx is one of the locations. Some of these pool sites have been turned into roller skating and ice-skating rinks in the past as well as places for people to gather.
Susan Donoghue, the commissioner of New York City parks, says it’s important to put these community spaces to good use.
"We know now post COVID, so many people are out and using our parks and need that space more than ever. So, we want to make sure that we're using all of our spaces and making them as accessible as possible,” Donoghue said.
