Transit workers will begin voting on their new contract offer Friday.

The members of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) have two weeks to vote on the contract by either phone or computer. The union originally said its workers would not vote on the offer until the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) executive board did.

The proposed contract would give TWU workers an average raise of 3.5 percent each year for three years, a better health plan and some pension refunds. Workers have reportedly been told they have until January 20 to vote on the contract offer. The MTA executive board is expected to meet later that week.
