Transit workers from Transport Workers Union Local 100 are speaking up about asbestos coming out of an East New York bus depot.

TWU says that the vents that pump air in the depot are lined with asbestos-laced cloth, and that they demand the MTA test all the workers for exposure.
Diane Wayne says her husband Eddie Wayne worked in the depot for 16 years. She says her husband was having breathing problems when she got the call from TWU that asbestos was found where he worked.
Wayne says her husband died from lung disease.

The workers are calling on the MTA to remove all the asbestos from the building.
However, the MTA says tests were recently done that say there is no asbestos.
The MTA told News 12, “New York City Transit's Office of System Safety and an expert third party environmental firm have conducted rigorous and comprehensive materials surveys and air quality tests for asbestos, as recently as Sept. 23, all of which confirmed no friable asbestos in the depot's HVAC system.”
The NYC Transit president and other executives toured the depot Wednesday morning. They met with employees to reassure them that the matter is being taken seriously.
However, officials say there is a lot of misleading and false information written about the issue.
The MTA says it will continue to monitor air at the depot.
