A tree came crashing down between a senior housing building and a playground in Highbridge, causing a massive hazard.

Residents say they heard the tree knock into their building just after midnight Wednesday.

The tree fell onto a walkway behind University Senior Housing and Merriam Playground at the corner of 169th Street and Merriam Avenue.

A tenant in the building says she called 311 to report the incident early Wednesday morning. She thinks it was due to Tuesday night's storm. She says 311 told her it could take up to 30 days to remove the tree.

Community members say the tree is blocking a pathway frequently used by kids playing on the playground and by residents to access local buses and the subway.

Residents say this isn't the first time a tree has come down in their neighborhood.

In a statement, the city's Parks Department said, "We thank New Yorkers for their patience as we actively respond to over tree 140 service requests across the city stemming from yesterday's storm. We are currently responding to priority tree conditions, and will clear this tree tomorrow."

The department added that tree conditions should be reported to 311, and in cases of emergency, New Yorkers should call 911.
