A tree fell on a minivan around 6 p.m. Thursday on Rugby Road between Foster Avenue and Newkirk Avenue.
This morning, the tree is still blocking off the street and preventing cars from passing.
Neighbors believe the tree fell due to the ground being saturated from recent storms, raising concerns about more potential damage as high winds and rain are in the forecast.
The New York City Office of Emergency Management has issued a high wind advisory for Brooklyn, starting at noon, with gusts expected to reach up to 50 mph.
Residents are advised to take the following precautions:
  • Report downed trees by calling 311
  • Prepare for power outages by charge all devices in advance and keeping extra batteries on hand
  • If you come across any downed power lines, contact Con Edison immediately
  • Secure outdoor items and bring loose objects like lawn furniture inside
  • Secure larger items, such as gas grills, to prevent them from becoming hazards
News 12 reached out to the City's Parks Department for more information on how the tree fell and they say they are looking into the matter.
