For the second time in four days, residents and business owners in part of downtown Port Chester had their utilities cut because of an oversized truck.
This morning, Port Chester police said a truck pulled down cable lines at the intersection of S. Main and Grace Church streets.
Witnesses said the truck was pulling out of the loading dock near that corner when it became tangled in the lines.
Residents said they hope something can be done to address the issue.
"There's always safety concerns," Port Chester resident Joel Del Valle said. "I walk a lot around here too, so you just hope that the right people are taking care of things."
The roads reopened before 4 p.m., according to village officials.
A nearly identical situation unfolded on Friday, Aug. 30.
Police said a different oversized truck tore down electrical lines at the same intersection.
Power was restored a few hours later.
Still, the repeat incidents have become a major nuisance, particularly for businesses that rely on utilities as well as car and pedestrian traffic.
Sergio Santana works at La Marqueta grocery store on Grace Church Street and spoke with News 12 through a translator.
"We are suffering the consequences of the accidents with the cables," he said.
Village police said they expect utilities will be out for most of Tuesday.
Village Manager Stuart Rabin told News 12 that the village has "requested a meeting with Con Edison to discuss making adjustments to the placement of their feeders and equipment."
A Con Edison spokesperson told News 12 in a statement, "We’ve been in touch with the municipality about the power lines and we are investigating."
