Brooklyn residents honored a hero firefighter on Sunday in the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K race.
The race recreates the path that firefighter Stephen Siller took on Sept. 11.
Upon hearing about the attacks on the World Trade Center, Siller abandoned his car and ran with all his gear through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel toward the Twin Towers.
The firefighter from Squad 1 in Park Slope reached the towers to join his fellow firefighters. He was among those who lost their lives that day.
Runners who participated in Sunday's race honored Siller's bravery and legacy. All of the money raised goes toward the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
