There's a new type of vending machine in Castle Hill, where Bronx residents can pick up some of their most needed groceries for free.
The food vending machine was recently launched at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.
It's the latest project from the nonprofit organization, Change Food for Good.
The founder and CEO Samia Lemfadli says its part of their “Good Food for All” program, is aimed at giving free food to New Yorkers.
"We thought what are some ways that we can distribute food more accessibly at the point of need that folks have it?," Lemfadli said. "So, we ended up coming up with this cold storage vending machine idea that would distribute the items for free."
The nonprofit aims to restock the machine twice a month. Lemfadli also hopes that the machine will serve as a model to be launched in hospitals, schools and other community organizations across the city.
