A vigil was held Tuesday for the anti-violence advocate who was shot and killed in Miami, Florida, over the weekend.
Lavon Walker, 30, who helped found the Crown Heights-based anti-violence group 'Save Our Streets' was shot twice outside of a restaurant Sunday. He was transported to the hospital, where officials say he later died.
Walker, who is known in the Brooklyn community as 'Boo,' led street interventions and was an advocate for stopping retaliatory shootings in the neighborhood.
Dozens gathered at 'Save Our Streets' headquarters to remember Walker. They shared stories of how Walker touched their lives and many in the community.
The group posted a message to its Facebook page saying, "Walker was our heart. He was always smiling, cracking jokes and keeping us honest. He saw the vision for a violence-free Brooklyn. We send our condolences to his family and loved ones and will miss him forever; we will continue to do this work in his name. #StopShootingStartLiving."
Tiana Walker, Lavon's sister, says, "He meant a lot to everybody, he touched a lot of people."
Police in Florida took multiple people of interest into custody Tuesday.
