Family and friends gathered in Bed-Stuy to remember a loved one on the anniversary of his death.
The family of Carlos Lopez, Jr. wore T-shirts with his picture and lit candles in honor of his life. Family members say on May 1, 2003, Lopez was walking in Bed-Stuy when gunfire erupted. The family says police were called to the scene and believe they mistook Lopez for the shooter, so they shot him.
Carolyn Lopez, the victim's mother, say she wants justice for her son. She wants the officer responsible for shooting her son to face criminal charges.
The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office had no comment on the matter.
