A vigil was held today for the lives impacted by a U-Haul driver who killed one person and injured eight others last Monday while driving onto the sidewalk in Brooklyn.

Elected officials and neighbors addressed the horrific incident with a vigil as a way of remembering and honoring the victims.

The U-Haul tore down Bay Ridge Parkway, jumping sidewalks and bike lanes – hitting nine people, including a police officer. The victims were all men ranging from ages 33 to 66 years old.

A 44-year-old hit by the vehicle at Bay Ridge Parkway and 5th Avenue later died from his injuries.

The driver lead police on a nearly hour-long chase from Bay Ridge through Dyker Heights, ending in Red Hook where he was caught by police. The driver was identified as 62-year-old Weng Sor.

The Las Vegas native has eight prior arrests and was visiting his son in Brooklyn. Police say he admitted to seeing an “invisible object” coming toward him, prompting him to start hitting pedestrians.

At the time of his arrest, investigators say he told police they should have just shot him. Sor now faces one count of murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He's due back in court on March 16.

The vigil took place at the corner of 75th Street and 5th Avenue.
