Family and friends paid their respects Tuesday to the NYPD officer who was killed in a friendly fire incident last week.

Preparations for the wake of Officer Omar Edwards began early in the morning at Woodward Lawrence Funeral Home as the first wreaths were delivered from mourners. Police put up barricades outside the entrance to help control the crowds of mourners.

Edwards, 25, was fatally shot by an undercover officer in East Harlem Thursday while pursuing a man who allegedly broke into his car. At the time of the incident, Edwards was in plain clothes and had a gun in his hand, police say.

Edwards? father spoke passionately about his love for his son and his grief and told News 12 Brooklyn he will push for a thorough investigation to ensure no other family experiences a similar tragedy.

Colleagues and members of the Ocean Hill community, where Edwards lived with his wife and two children, will have another opportunity to say goodbye to the slain officer Wednesday during another wake. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Our Lady of Victory.
