A teen who was gunned down while playing basketball is being remembered Friday at a wake in Canarsie.
Fellow students and friends signed a board with messages for 16-year-old Timi Oyebola and his family at Guarino Funeral Home.
"Nothing can replace the loss of my son, but we can learn from this and educating our young ones," says David Oyebola, Timi's father. "Instead of dealing with the fruit we should be dealing with the tree."
Officials say 16-year-old Timi Oyebola was shot in the head while playing basketball at the Chester Playground on Sept. 21.
Police say the teen was not the intended target of the shooting.
Oyebola was a Queens native and an 11th-grader at Brooklyn Ascend High School. The school's website says Oyebola loved math and science and attended the National School Walkout for Gun Safety in April.
Police charged 14-year-old Aaron Nathaniel with second-degree murder in the crime this week. He is expected back in court next week.
Oyebola's father says they are working on creating a foundation in Timi's name.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
