A shooting and car theft outside Town Fair Tire in Norwalk was a domestic violence incident, according to the suspect’s arrest warrant.

Deonte Sayles, of Bridgeport, has been in custody since it happened, but on other charges. On Wednesday, Sayles was arrested in the Norwalk case and charged with assault, robbery and criminal possession of a firearm. His warrant said the victim wasn’t random but his girlfriend.

On June 19, police responded to the tire store on Main Avenue after an employee called 911 to report a woman had run in bleeding and said her car was stolen.

Court documents showed the victim initially told police a man wearing a black ski mask jumped into her car while she was stopped, then pointed a gun at her, and had her drive to the back of Town Fair Tire. Once there, she said he told her to get out, then shot her in the leg and took off in her car, according to the warrant.

Sayles was arrested a short time later in Danbury after police said he hit multiple vehicles as he fled and tried to violently carjack another woman. Sayles’ warrant said police found a black ski mask on him and discovered two bullet holes and a spent casing inside the victim's car.

Police also learned Sayles was a convicted felon who was on probation and parole and required to wear a GPS ankle monitor, according to the warrant. His warrant noted GPS tracking data put him at the Town Fair Tire and showed the clear path he took after through Wilton, Ridgefield and Danbury.

The warrant also said police determined the victim was Sayles' girlfriend. According to his arrest warrant, a DCF investigator interviewed the victim who said they'd been together three years and “he's a good person.” When asked what happened, the victim said she'd just made a delivery for work and found her boyfriend inside her car holding a gun, the warrant said. She said Sayles was acting angry and said he'd taken a “street Percocet,” according to the warrant. He allegedly told her to drive and then started shooting inside the car.

Along with the Norwalk case, Sayles is charged with evading responsibility, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, and other motor charges out of Wilton. Sayles also faces charges of robbery, assault, resisting arrest, attempted carjacking, threatening, and attempted larceny of a motor vehicle out of Danbury.
